A Celebration of Harmony and New Beginnings
Exploring the vibrant traditions of the Biju festival, the most significant cultural event for the Chakma community.

Biju is the most anticipated festival for the Chakma people, marking the end of the Bengali year and welcoming the new one. Celebrated over three days, the festival is a vibrant display of color, cuisine, and community bonding.
The celebration begins with Phool Biju, where flowers are offered to the rivers as a tribute to nature. This is followed by Mul Biju, the main day of festivity, where the traditional mixed vegetable dish, ‘Paxon’ (or Pাজন), is prepared in every household. The festival concludes with Gojjepojje Din, a day of relaxation and new year resolutions. Biju is more than a festival; it is a reaffirmation of the Chakma identity and their deep connection to nature.
