Bridging the Language Gap: The Push for Mother-Tongue Education
Why Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MLE) is vital for reducing dropout rates and preserving the Chakma language for the next generation.

Education is the backbone of any nation, but for the indigenous children of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, language barriers have long been a hurdle. Statistics show that dropout rates are significantly higher in remote areas where primary education is not available in the students’ native tongue.
The Chakma Circle, in collaboration with various NGOs and government bodies, is strongly advocating for Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MLE). The goal is to ensure that every Chakma child can start their learning journey in their own language—Changma Kodha—before transitioning to the national curriculum. This initiative not only improves academic understanding but also fosters a deep sense of pride in our linguistic heritage among the youth.
